Tucked away at the back of the alleys, the campo is a sunny square paved with gravel and stone that we transformed into a total urban oasis. Crimson Horticultural Rarities lent their beguiling sense of style, constructing breathtaking tablescapes bedecked with locally grown summer flowers, as well as a romantic floral swag to adorn the campo fence line. Linda Fahey’s bewitching ceramic snakes slithered among bud vases of marigolds, strawflowers, dahlias, and sweet peas with tea lights glowing throughout. One True Love Vintage provided the furnishings – from rustic farm tables, to homespun dishware, and antique woven leather chairs – their pieces provided the foundation for a profusion of beauty!
As guests arrived, they were greeted with a glass of heartening wine from Red Car Wine Co. based in Sebastopol, CA, poured by none other than founder Carroll Kemp. Red Car pushes beyond sustainability in their quest to produce an authentic connection to the natural world by integrating biodynamic and permaculture systems into their farming practices. We are completely onboard with their methods of production, and believe us, drinking a glass of their wine is a transcendental experience.
After introductions and a bit of mingling, Fred Sassen of Homestead Restaurant enlightened us about the farm-to-table fare that he graciously served up buffet style. The food from Homestead is absolutely delectable! Think: homemade butter, bread made from mother dough that has fermented for a decade, and whole trout cooked over the coals. For dessert, we oohed and ahhed over a summer berry cobbler dabbed with whipped crème fraiche. Yum! As Fred says, Homestead “makes the ingredients that make the food.” Pretty special indeed.
As the sun waned, we chatted in the candlelight and basked in the pleasure of a summer meal enjoyed al-fresco. Four Barrel Coffee was also on hand serving up some warm and wonderful coffee service that paired delightfully with Homestead’s desserts. We discussed the challenges faced by women in the business world, and celebrated our luck at living in such a fertile and supportive place.
Rasheed Photography was on hand to capture all the splendid details, and he didn’t have to travel far, since his public studio space is right here in the Temescal Alleys! Hasain is an incredible visual storyteller, as you can see.
We would seriously recommend all of these choice vendors for your next event or wedding. From food to furnishings – they provided a truly sumptuous experience from start to finish.
