Afton Love is an Oakland based artist working with themes involving preservation and memory. Her work is developed through a unique process involving graphite powder and wax, creating drawings and installations that articulate a landscape that is both highly specific and nearly abstract. Subtle gradations of tonality evoke both absence and presence, with the power to suggest experience rather than define it. Her drawings and installations range in scale from intimate to ambitiously expansive, imparting a sense of both power and loss in connection to the natural world. One enters Love’s dreamy work as one might enter a forest or take the first step on a path.
Afton will be at our Esqueleto Oakland gallery for the opening on Friday, June 5th between 6PM - 8PM. We welcome you to come by to meet the artist and view the work. Oakland First Fridays festival will be going on in the neighborhood, so you can plan to stick around for live music and food!
